Safe Schools Manitoba is a partnership initiative of organizations committed to working together to enhance the safety of Manitoba’s schools and communities. It receives continued operating funding from the Province of Manitoba: Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth and Manitoba Justice. In addition, it received a grant from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The revision of the Safe Schools Manitoba (2006) website was made possible by a grant from the Department of Justice, Canada, National Crime Prevention Centre. The organization represents an effective collaboration of Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth, Manitoba Justice, professional associations, schools, law enforcement, social service agencies, parent councils, and community agencies. The Safe Schools Manitoba Advisory Council provides a forum for identification of emerging issues related to safe schools and communities. It makes recommendations concerning the direction, goals and services of the organization. These groups share the responsibility of contributing to safe schools and communities. The following organizations contributed to the establishment of Safe Schools Manitoba:
Mary Hall, PhD, is the Director of Safe Schools Manitoba. She has worked in the field of education for 25 years, teaching in the elementary school system, as well as the undergraduate and graduate levels of the post-secondary system. She has lectured in the Faculty of Education and the Department of Criminology at Simon Fraser in British Columbia. In addition to her work at Safe Schools Manitoba, Mary is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Manitoba.
